How does wedding insurance work?

Your wedding is likely to be one of the most expensive events of your life, so it makes sense to protect it against potential financial loss.

As with any insurance policy there are things that are covered and things that are not; all the things that are covered are written in the policy wording . Therefore prior to purchasing a wedding insurance product you should always read the policy wording to ensure that it meets your needs. If you have any problems or don't understand something in the Dreamsaver policy wording, we are more than happy to answer any queries on 01483 562 662.

Again, like all insurance policies, wedding insurance is there to protect you against things you don't know are going to happen. Therefore anything you do already know about that could lead to you making a claim would be excluded from cover. For example, if you knew your caterer was going to go bust and then you took out wedding insurance, this would not be covered.

What level of cover do I need?

Most insurers will offer a number of different policies based on the level of cancellation cover required. This is the amount it would cost you if you had to cancel your wedding in its entirety for one of the insured reasons.

Generally, the cost to purchase each level of cover will increase in line with the level of cancellation cover, so a policy with £20,000 cancellation cover will be more expensive than a policy with £6,000 cancellation cover. You can use our handy wedding insurance calculator to work out the total cost of your wedding, so you can decide on the appropriate level of cover.

Although it might be tempting to save a few pounds by getting a lower level of cover than you need, we wouldn't recommend this as in the event of a claim you would only be able to claim up to the limits of the level of cover you have purchased. When you think about the total budget for your wedding, the wedding insurance premium cost is a tiny proportion of the overall cost - no more than a few glasses of wine!

However, if you purchase a policy and during the course of planning the wedding, your costs escalate putting you into a higher level of cancellation cover, you can increase your cover levels by calling us on 01483 562 662 and paying the difference between the two policies.

I'm having an Asian style wedding; can I insure more than 2 events on Dreamsaver?

The Dreamsaver policy is designed for western weddings i.e. 1 wedding ceremony and 1 wedding reception within 21 days of each other. However we have another wedding insurance product available on www.AsianWeddingInsurance.co.uk that caters specifically for weddings that require insurance for more than 2 events. Asian wedding insurance provides cover for up to 6 wedding events over a period of 94 days. The Asian Wedding Insurance product can also provide up to £100,000 of cancellation cover.

Who can buy a Dreamsaver wedding insurance policy?

A Dreamsaver wedding insurance policy must be taken out in the Bride and Groom's name. However it can be purchased by anyone, providing that the person purchasing the policy can answer the 'important questions' on the policy.

If you need to make a claim, as long as you can provide proof of your financial contribution e.g. with a receipt or paid invoice, then you will be able to do so through the bride and groom named on the policy.

How much is Dreamsaver wedding insurance?

Prices for Dreamsaver wedding insurance start at £24 for the Silver level of cover with £6,000 of cancellation cover up to £99 for the Diamond cover with £30,000 of cancellation cover. All policies are a one off payment and can be purchased up to 2 years in advance of the ceremony date.

Various extensions can be added to the policy with the payment of an additional premium such as public liability for the guests (public liability for the bride and groom is covered as standard), marquee cover and ceremonial swords. Cover under the diamond policy can also be extended to £50,000 cancellation cover with the payment of the appropriate additional premium.
