The past year has seen a change in the types of claims that people are making on their Dreamsaver wedding insurance policies.
In previous years the most common reason for claiming on a Dreamsaver policy was for the financial failure of a supplier. Not surprisingly, this was due to the economic climate with many companies going into liquidation, leaving couples out of pocket. While it is still an important reason to for claiming it has been superseded by Cancellation as most likely reason for couples to claim.
While the proportion of Cancellation claims has increased, it is not all due to the extreme weather conditions seen over the past few winters, suggesting that couples won't let snow get in the way of their wedding day! The most common reason for needing to cancel a wedding is actually the illness of one of the couple or a close relative as defined by the policy. Clearly if a couple has to cancel or rearrange their wedding due to an illness they could, potentially, lose a large sum of money if it isn't insured.
Another alarming statistic is the increase in claims due to theft of wedding gifts. It seems that there has been a real trend in the numbers of couples who have had items stolen from their wedding reception. For a claim under this section to be valid, it is worth pointing our, you MUST report any loss within 24 hours of discovery to the police.
While each Dreamsaver claim is dealt with on its own individual merits and not every claim is valid under the policy, the data does show that a good quality wedding insurance like Dreamsaver is invaluable for the financial protection it affords a couple getting married. We would, however, recommend that you read the policy wording in full before purchasing any insurance product to make sure the policy meets your needs.
