When you think of a Halloween-themed wedding, plastic pumpkins and Witches hats come straight to mind. However, if your wedding is on or near October 31st, you can embrace the occasion and all of its mystery and autumnal feel without the need for the fancy dress.
That's why the team at Dreamsaver Wedding Insurance have put together 5 tips on planning your Halloween themed wedding, from the concept right through to the food and the fashion.
The Concept
An idea that can be incorporated easily in to any Halloween themed wedding is to keep the glamour and elegance of a traditional wedding day, just add a touch of spookiness to the mix.
The Halloween feel of the wedding doesn't have to be glaringly present throughout your whole day. So, instead turning the entire wedding in to a full-on fancy dress themed party, host a more masquerade-ball themed reception instead. As said above, glamourous, elegant, with a touch of spookiness.
The Venue
A manor house or any rumoured-to-be haunted venue would be ideal for a Halloween themed wedding.
The thought of a haunted venue adds more excitement and mystery to your day and may give yourself and your marrying partner a bit more alone time together in-between the ceremony and the reception whilst your guests turn their hands at ghost hunting!
The Look and Feel
Have the venue decorated with the wonderful colours of autumn; burnt orange, burgundy, purples, silvers, black etc by incorporating these colours in to your napkins, glasses, plates, flower arrangements, centre pieces fabrics and candles and candle holders for when the night falls.
To add to the ambience and the autumnal and spooky vibes, when night falls, the venue space should be lit by candles and fairy lights only. Atmosphere and ambience means everything when going with certain theme for your wedding day.
The Fashion
Your wedding dress is not a costume. So, skip the bride of Frankenstein or corpses bride look in favour of something dramatic yet beautiful and true to your bridal vision. Pick a dress that you'll feel comfortable in. You'll be wearing this for a full day and evening!
Also, don't shy away from a strong hair and make-up look, you still want to look like you, but it's a special day so try something spectacular!
The Food and Drink
Just because it's Halloween themed doesn't mean you have to eat gummy worms or decorated Halloween lady fingers at your wedding.
Keep a hint of the theme running through your menu but incorporate foods that you and your guests will like. For example, give the items on your menu spooky names such as the 'swimming with the fishes' salmon starter or the 'bucket of bones' pulled short rib main etc. It has an impact and you don't have to have a menu that you won't enjoy.
Keep the theme through your drinks menu too. Incorporate autumnal and Halloween-esq cocktails in to your evening along with the usual alcoholic and soft drinks available. Perhaps hold a cocktail hour at the beginning of the reception and serve Bloody Mary's, Old Fashioned's and whiskey with Sweet Vermouth.
Perfect for your Halloween wedding!
