With the average cost of a wedding being around £17,000 it is easy for couples to think of wedding insurance as just another expense. The good news is that Dreamsaver wedding insurance provides cover if the wedding couple and the majority of guests are unable to reach the wedding venue due to adverse weather, such as snow.
However, with most couples planning their big day many months in advance, an increasing number are opting to insure their weddings against financial loss, by purchasing wedding insurance.
Cancellation and Rearrangement
The largest section of cover in the Dreamsaver wedding insurance policy is cancellation and/or rearrangement. What this means is if you needed to cancel your wedding due to one of the reasons listed in Section 1 of the policy wording, such as: the illness of the bride or groom or if you are in the military and your previously agreed leave is cancelled, you can claim back the irrecoverable amounts you have paid to your wedding service suppliers.
Because of this, it is important you take out the level of cover is sufficient to meet the total cost of your wedding arrangements. If you bought a policy with a cancellation cover less than the cost of your wedding you would only be able to claim back the maximum amount as shown on the policy benefits schedule, leaving you out of pocket.
The rearrangement part of this section covers you for any additional costs you incur as a result of having to rearrange your wedding at short notice, for one of the insured reasons.
Adverse weather
With the Great British weather being somewhat unpredictable, particularly if you are getting married during the winter months, we are often asked ‘Am I covered to cancel my wedding due to bad weather?’. The short answer is ‘yes’ under the Dreamsaver policy, providing the couple getting married and more than half the guests are unable to get to the wedding venue due to adverse weather causing major disruption to travel services.
However, it is worth noting that this section of cover only comes into force 14 days after the purchase of the policy, so make sure you take out your Dreamsaver Wedding Insurance policy in good time, if you require this cover.
Public liability
We are often asked about public liability cover by couples as venues are increasingly requesting that this in place. As standard, only the Bride and Groom are covered for public liability under the Dreamsaver policy, however, unlike some other wedding insurance policies, our policy can be extended to cover all guests attending the wedding, with the payment of an additional premium.
If you have purchased another wedding insurance policy that does not allow you to cover your guests for public liability, we have a stand-alone ‘public liability only’ product available that you can purchase here .
The public liability on Dreamsaver does not extend to cover the liability of any wedding services such as bands or DJs as they should have their own liability cover. Similarly if you have any guests who will be performing, their liability will only be covered in their capacity as a guest and not whilst they are performing, if you have paid the additional premium for the public liability for guests extension.
With policies from as low as £25, many couples choose Dreamsaver Wedding Insurance and enjoy peace of mind for their big day.
