You have spent months planning your special day. You've booked the caterer, picked your flowers, found THE dress and you're all set to get married. Then, disaster strikes and your venue cancels just days before the big day! So, what do you do?!
Imminently panic sets in, but don't fret as Dreamsaver Wedding Insurance are here to help provide you with some tips and information on the next steps to take….and it helps even more if you have purchased your Dreamsaver Wedding Insurance policy!
Arrange to meet the venue manager, immediately!
Arrange to meet the venue manager as soon as possible after learning the venue has cancelled your booking. This will help you understand the circumstances surrounding your cancellation and will also provide an opportunity to ask any questions you may have, face to face.
It is also wise to take a copy of your contract along with you and highlight any terms and conditions stated by the venue. The venue may also be able to accommodate your wedding at another one of their venues (if they have any) so it is always worth asking!
Request your refund
Whatever reason the venue cancelled your booking, you may be entitled to a refund of any monies you may have paid. If your venue has gone in to liquidation or bankruptcy, a wedding insurance policy may be your only way of getting your money back.
Talk with your bank or building society too and inform them of what has happened. They should be able to assist you in returning any payments made from your account. If you paid by credit card you may also have some additional protection, but it may be limited!
Look for a new venue
Start searching for a new venue and contact any wedding suppliers to inform them of what has happened immediately.
With Dreamsaver Wedding Insurance, should you need to re-arrange your special day and incur extra costs for doing so, these may be covered so long as these charges have been notified to and agreed by the claim handlers in advance of beginning the re-arrangement / booking your new venue.
Decide what compromises you are willing to make
Being so close to your wedding date, you may not necessarily find a venue that meets your requirements as specifically as your original. Decide on things such as how far you're willing to travel, are your start and end times flexible? Are you willing to have the ceremony and reception in separate venues if the previous offered everything in house or vice versa? Once you've made these kinds of decisions, you will find it easier to narrow down a venue.
If all else fails, it is time to cancel temporarily
Sometimes no matter how hard you try, time can get the best of us and you may need to cancel your wedding completely or re-arrange for a much later date.
As heart breaking as this can be, it's important to remember that you want a wedding day you can remember for all the right reasons and not the wrong ones.
