What is Wedding Insurance?
Wedding insurance provides financial protection for unexpected issues that could disrupt your wedding day. From cancellations to losing important items, such as wedding rings. Coverage is subject to policy terms and claim limits.
Why Is Wedding Insurance Important?
When planning what will be one of the biggest and most expensive days of your life, no-one would think things might go wrong. Sadly, however, weddings do sometimes may have to be cancelled or re-arranged for a wide range of different reasons.
Wedding Insurance is there to help make sure that you do not lose money as a result. Even if the day goes ahead, other problems can arise, and Wedding Insurance helps you to sort them out and pay for unexpected additional costs.
What does Wedding Insurance cover?
Dreamsaver provides cover for the following (subject to policy terms and conditions):
- Wedding cancellation or rearrangement
- Ceremonial attire
- Wedding gifts
- Rings, flowers, attendant's gifts and the wedding cake
- Cars and transport
- Photography and video
- Financial failure of wedding service suppliers
- Personal Accident
- Professional Counselling
- Essential Document Indemnity (Overseas Wedding Only)
- Legal Expenses
- Public liability (for the Bride and Groom)
There are also optional extras that can be added to the policy:
- Coronavirus Cover
- Choose to cover up to 6 events
- Marquee cover
- Public liability (to cover the Wedding Party)
- Ceremonial Swords cover

How Much Is Wedding Insurance?
The cost of your wedding insurance depends on the level of cancellation cover and any optional extras you choose to add. The current Dreamsaver wedding insurance prices without optional extras, covering 2 Events (a Ceremony and a Reception), are:

How Much Wedding Insurance Do You Need?
The level of cover you need depends on how much you’re planning to spend on your wedding in total. For instance, if you’re planning to spend around £20,000 in total on your wedding then you will need to select the level of cover that will cover this, if you need to cancel your special day.

Who Can Buy Wedding Insurance?
Anyone can buy a Dreamsaver policy, for instance parents of the bride or groom, but the policy must be in name of the couple as it is their wedding being covered.
Is Wedding Insurance a One-Off Payment?
Yes, the price you see on the website is a one-off payment only. The price you’re quoted for your wedding insurance is the full amount you pay. There are no re-occurring payments or renewals etc.
When Should We Get Wedding Insurance?
Ideally, you should take it out as soon as you’ve paid any deposits or signed a contract that means you’ll lose money if you’re forced to change your plans. You can arrange our insurance at any time up to 24 months before your wedding ceremony.
However, all Dreamsaver policies must be purchased at least 14 days in advance of the scheduled ceremony date.
Does Wedding Insurance Cover Family Contribution?
Yes, it covers money contributed by relatives of the couple, provided they’ve proof of payment (e.g., receipts or booking confirmations). Any claims must be submitted by the insured couple, who can then reimburse relatives.
Does Wedding Insurance Cover Cancellations Due to Family Bereavement?
Yes, family bereavement is covered if the circumstances make proceeding with the wedding inappropriate. However, you’ll need to complete a medical declaration in respect of all people whom your wedding plans depend on when purchasing the policy.
If you answer yes to any of the medical questions regarding a relative, you won’t be covered in relation to that medical condition. You’ll of course be covered for anything unrelated to that relative's condition.

Does The Dreamsaver Policy Have an Excess?
Yes, there’s an excess of £100 applicable under all sections of the policy, except for the Public Liability sections (sections 12, 13 & 14) which have an excess of £250.
Does Wedding Insurance Cover COVID?
On a standard Dreamsaver policy, cancellation because of COVID isn’t insured. However, you can add our Optional Coronavirus extension to your policy, you would then be covered for:
- Death or sickness of the couple or a relative due to COVID-19 within 10 days of the wedding ceremony
- Costs associated with rearranging the wedding ceremony or wedding reception for the same insured reasons

Can You Get Wedding Insurance After Booking Wedding Suppliers?
Yes – provided you aren’t aware of any circumstances that may result in a claim when you take out the policy.
What Happens If One of The Wedding Suppliers Goes Bust?
If a wedding supplier becomes insolvent, you can claim for irrecoverable deposits and any additional costs to secure a replacement. For a detailed definition of "wedding service suppliers," refer to our policy wording.
Our Wedding Venue Is Flooded Just Before the Big Day. Are We Covered?
Yes – the policy covers:
- Additional costs of rearranging a suitable alternative venue for the same day, if that’s possible
- Irrecoverable amounts and additional costs if you need to cancel and rearrange the whole event for a later date.
However, the Dreamsaver policy does not cover situations where flooding makes the venue inaccessible but not damaging the venue itself.
We Are Hiring a Marquee and Will Need to Insure It. Is This Included or Can It Be Added to The Policy?
There’s an optional marquee cover you can add to Dreamsaver policy, where you can get financial protection for your wedding marquee up to £20,000. This policy extra can be extended to £50,000, subject to payment of the appropriate additional premium.
Our Venue Requires Us to Provide Insurance in Case Any of Us Or The Guests Causes Accidental Damage During The Reception. Is This Included?
Public liability cover for the marrying couple is included as standard up to £2 million. You can also add an optional extra to include wedding guests under the public liability cover, up to £2 million in total.
Additionally, there’s an optional extra to increase the public liability cover to £5 million. If you need £5 million liability for both the couple and the wedding guests, you will need to take both options.
Please note that there are restrictions on public liability cover for overseas weddings.
What Happens If the Professional Wedding Photographs Fail Because Tthe Film Or Digital Storage Media Is Faulty And There Are No Copies Available?
If your photos or videos are lost due to faulty equipment and cannot be recovered, Dreamsaver covers the reasonable cost of taking replacement formal photographs of the couple and immediate wedding party.
Wedding Ceremonies FAQs
We Are Getting Married in A Small Civil Ceremony with A Larger Church Blessing & Reception 2 Weeks Later. Are Both Dates Covered?
Yes - Dreamsaver is designed to cover one wedding and one wedding reception taking place within 94 days of each other. However, our Dreamsaver policy can now cover weddings celebrations with up to 6 events.
Are Civil Wedding Ceremonies Covered?
Yes - we view civil ceremonies as the same as a wedding under Dreamsaver policies.
We Are Getting Married Abroad. Can We Take Out a Policy?
Yes - you can take a policy for weddings anywhere in the world. For weddings abroad, however, you cannot take the extension to add wedding public liability of your guests and liability is excluded completely for weddings in the USA or Canada.
Please Note - due to the ongoing situation in Ukraine, we’re unable to offer cover for weddings and/or receptions taking place in the following countries: Russian, Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Kazakhstan.
My Fiancé Is in The Armed Forces. Are We Covered If He Is Unexpectedly Posted Abroad?
Yes – provided there was no notice of posting orders or leave when the policy was purchased, your policy will cover any necessary cancellations or rearrangements.
My Fiancé Lives Abroad. Can We Take Out a Policy?
Yes - provided one of you is a resident here in the UK you can take out a policy.
Does Wedding Insurance Cover Change of Mind or Cold Feet?
Unfortunately not, this is known as "disinclination to proceed" or cold feet and isn’t covered under Dreamsaver policy.
Are My Honeymoon or Overseas Wedding Trip Insured on This Policy?
No, this policy does not cover your honeymoon or the travel portion of overseas weddings. You’ll need separate travel insurance to include cancellation cover in case you’re unable to travel as planned.
Wedding insurance only covers additional costs and items specifically related to the wedding, such as rings, wedding attire, and essential document indemnity, but not the cost of the trip itself.
